Vasylkiv City State Archive (today Archival Department of Vasylkiv City Council) was created in 1975 in connection with levelling Vasylkiv to the category of regional subordination (Order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR from March 3, 1975 No. 110). In accordance to Vasylkiv City Council of People’s Deputies order No. 25 from 26.07.1975 Bardys (Vasiliev) Nina Kuzminichna was appointed on the position of Head of Vasylkiv City State Archive (26.07.1975 – 29.12.1988).

This date (July 26, 1975) is considered the birthday of Vasylkiv City State Archive.

According to the Order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR № 6796-XI from 04.11.1988 “On Associations of Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies and Vasylkiv District Council of People's Deputies” Vasylkiv City State Archive and Vasylkiv District State Archive were merged into Vasylkiv City State Archive. 

In accordance to Resolution of the Executive Committee of the Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies No. 51 from 29.12.1988, cases and tangibles were handed over to Pohodun Ivan Afanasiyovych who worked as head of Vasylkiv City State Archive (29.12.1988 – 22.05.1992).

According to Order of XII session of Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies of XXI Convocation from 28.04.1992 was separated Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies and created Vasylkiv District and Vasylkiv City Councils of People's Deputies, based on the decision of this session District and State Archives were established.

On July 31, 1992 according to the Direction of the representative of the President of Ukraine in Vasylkiv District and Executive Committee of the Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies from 30.07.1992 No. 202 "On the appointment of the commission for the distribution of United State Archive’s tangibles and documents» was handed over documents and tangibles of archive, namely record creators-31, 4178 cases of permanent storage period. Bondar Maria Pavlovna was appointed on the position of Head Archive and was working until she was pensioned off (July 1992 - 12.06.2001).

Since 2001 Ruban Oksana Vasylivna has been working on the position of the Head of Archival Department.

1975 – 1989 Vasylkiv City State Archive was subordinate to Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies and the Archival Department of the Kiev Oblast Executive Committee.

1989 - 2003 Vasylkiv City State Archive was subordinate to Vasylkiv City Council of People's Deputies and State Archive of Kyiv Oblast.

On May 29, 2003 according to the decision No.5 of Vasylkiv City Council Session No. 24-05-ХХІУ Vasylkiv City State Archive was renamed into Archival Department of Vasylkiv City Council and now is subordinating to Vasylkiv City Council and to State Archive of Kiev oblast.

Since July 26, 1975 to the present archival department has been located at the Cinema "Friendship" 6 Shevchenko str., Vasylkiv.

In the archival department documents, which belong to the National Archival Fund (NAF), are remaining deposited.
